In today’s article I will share simple tips on how to correct the mileage displayed on the total pedometer of vehicles equipped with speedometer or digital/electronic odometer.
I will be making available for download all programs, schemes, scripts upa loads and software to fix km of thousands of domestic and imported vehicles in addition to motorcycles in the link below:

Who has never had to change a speedometer and have to buy a used in a dismantling or junkyard for not finding a new one to replace, and come across a big problem that is the divergence of information displayed by a speedometer bought in dismantling. For it is friends, this is a very common problem, and it can devalue a vehicle that rode little just because it has a speedometer that marks a much greater distance than the one originally traveled.
We all know that mileage is an important factor in the issue of vehicle valuation and that at the time of resale a vehicle has a higher mileage has its value depreciated in relation to a vehicle that has run less.
To correct the mileage of current vehicles it is necessary to reprogram the EEPROM memory or mcu processor that exists behind the speedometer. And there are basically two ways to do this:
- Programming via obd dithestic outlet of the vehicle,
Programming via OBD diagnostic making is the simplest and most uncomplicated way to do so but most vehicles do not support this feature, or there are no tools that do all. Example of equipment that correct via obd socket: VW TACHO, ENIGMA TOOL, X-TOOL.
- Programming via direct connection of EEPROM/MCU processor with in-circuit programmer
This is one of the ways in which it is possible to correct the mileage of most domestic and imported vehicles that exist! but requires the use of an in-circuit programmer that can be UPA, ORANGE-M, or X-PROG. and it is also necessary to use programs to map the fields to be modified within the eeprom memory. I will explain better below, and also leave links to programs and scripts to fix km of thousands of vehicles and motorcycles.
- Removing The EEPROM memory then inserts and programs it with universal EEPROM programmer.
This is also a medium that serves many vehicles and motorcycles, but most universal programmers do not program MCU processors. which is a disadvantage compared to in-circuit programmers like the UPA, as some vehicles have their KM data stored in the processor. Recommended Programmer: Minipro TL-866CS
To program a new km on a dashboard it is always good to back up the memory data before, if something does not go as expected at least there will be a way to restore the data.
Another detail you shouldn’t miss is that you always have to put the memory in the same position it was in! So if possible take a picture of the memory before desoldering to have a reference later!!
I will teach basic steps to fix the km of a fiat panel with soic memory st 95160: (the step by step is universal and serves for all panels that use soic too).
Basically you can do with upa programmer or with a universal eeprom programmer since the mileage data is stored in an EEPROM memory. To proceed with both upa and universal programmer, you must carefully remove the memory from the board to place it on a soic 8 adapter so you can have access to your data.
After you put it on your programmer’s adapter, read it with its windows utility:
You must then open the script that you will use to edit the km, or the program that calculates the km and select the parameters compatible with the memory and dashboard of the vehicle.
After changing the data, you must click program to proceed with memory programming. And you must reweld it to the plate and set the panel to then test it on the car and bingo! The km will be corrected.
The procedure is the same for motorcycle panels too!
For panels with mileage stored in the processor you will need the processor’s in-circuit connection scheme and a compatible programmer. The in-circuit connection consists of welding wires on certain plate test point pins see the example below:
